Property Description

The page-break-before property sets the page-breaking behavior before an element.

This property has the following syntax:

page-break-before: auto|always|avoid|left|right|initial|inherit;

Property Values

Value Description
auto (default) Insert a page break before the element if necessary
always Insert a page break before the element
avoid Avoid inserting a page break before the element
left1 Insert page breaks before the element until it reaches a blank left page
right1 Insert page breaks before the element until it reaches a blank right page
initial Specifies that the value of the property should be set to the default value
inherit Specifies that the value of the property should be inherited from the parent element

Examples

This example sets the page-breaking behavior to always break before an h1 element.

h1 {
  page-break-before: always;
}
