Accelerator

Hardware device or program designed to improve the overall speed of the computer. A good example of an accelerator is a graphics 3D accelerator, which has its own processor (GPU) and RAM, allowing it to perform at accelerated speeds without decreasing the performance of the computer. Another example of an accelerator is a download accelerator, which can be installed and help improve the download speeds.
