Alternatively referred to as boot or kill, kick is a command used on chat networks such as IRC, where an IRC operator, moderator, or administrator can kick a user to remove them from the chat system, usually due to abuse or other problems. The user removed from the chat system will usually receive a message that explains why they were removed. A kill is sometimes accompanied with a timed ban, which does not let the user back on the chat system for a set amount of time.
