trimToSize()

This method trims the capacity of this ArrayList instance to be the list's current size. An application can use this operation to minimize the storage of an ArrayList instance.

Syntax:
Library: java.util.ArrayList

public void trimToSize()

Example:

import java.util.ArrayList;

public class ArrayListDemo {
  public static void main(String args[]) {

    // create an empty array list with an initial capacity
    ArrayList arrlist = new ArrayList(5);

    // use add() method to add elements in the list
    arrlist.add(35);
    arrlist.add(20);
    arrlist.add(25);

    // Trim the arraylist
    arrlist.trimToSize();

    // let us print all the elements available in list
    for (Integer number : arrlist) {
      System.out.println("Number = " + number);
    }
  }
}

Output:

Number = 35
Number = 20
Number = 25
