Ajax

Ajax

jQuery provides a rich set of methods for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax) web development.

With jQuery Ajax, you can request TXT, HTML, XML or JSON data from a remote server using both HTTP Get and HTTP Post.

High Level Ajax

The high level Ajax functions are simple to use, but very powerful.

jQuery load()

The .load() function can be used to load remote data directly into selected elements.

The .load() function has the following syntax:

$(selector).load(url,data,callback)
Parameter Description
selector Specifies the HTML element(s) to change
url Specifies a web address for the data
data (optional) Specifies a map or string that is sent to the server with the request
callback (optional) Specifies a callback function that is executed when the request completes

Low Level Ajax

The low level Ajax functions are more difficult to use than the high level functions like load, get, and post, but they offer more functionality.

$.ajax()

The $.ajax() function can be used to load remote data into an XMLHttpRequest object.

This function has the following syntax:

$.ajax(options)
Parameter Description
options Specifies name|value pairs defining url data, passwords, data types, filters, character sets, timeout and error functions.

$.get(), $.post()

The $.get() function can load remote data using HTTP GET.

The $.post() function can load remote data using HTTP POST.

These functions have the following syntax:

$.get(url,data,callback,type)

$.post(url,data,callback,type)
Parameter Description
url Specifies a web address for the data
data Specifies a map or string that is sent to the server with the request
callback Specifies a callback function that is executed when the request completes
type Specifies the type of data to be returned (html, XML, JSON, JASONP, script, text)
