Description

The .before() method inserts specified content in front of (before) the selected elements.

This method has the form:

.before(content)
Parameter Description
content (required) Specifies the content to insert (can contain HTML tags)

Return Value

This form returns a jQuery object.


Insert Content Using a Function

Using a function to insert specified content before selected elements.

This method has the alternate form:

.before(function(index))
Parameter Description
function(index) (required) Specifies a function that returns the content to insert.
  • index - (optional) Receives the index position of the selector

Return Value

This form returns a jQuery object.

Examples

Insert content before each p element:

});
