jQuery.contains()


Description

The jQuery.contains() function checks to see if a DOM node is within another DOM node.

This function has the form:

jQuery.contains(container, contained)
Parameter Description
container (required) The DOM element that may contain the other element
contained (required) The DOM node that may be contained by the other element

Return Value

This form returns a Boolean object.

Examples

Test for contains:

jQuery.contains(document.documentElement,
  document.body); // true
jQuery.contains(document.body,
  document.documentElement); // false
