IsNumeric()


Description

The IsNumeric() function returns a Boolean value that indicates whether a specified expression can be evaluated as a number. It returns True if the expression is recognized as a number; otherwise, it returns False.

Note: If expression is a date the IsNumeric function will return False.

This function has the form:

IsNumeric(expression)
Parameter Description
expression (required) An expression

Examples

The following example shows the basic use of this function:

Dim x
x=10 Msgbox(IsNumeric(x)) x=Empty Msgbox(IsNumeric(x)) x=Null Msgbox(IsNumeric(x)) x="10" Msgbox(IsNumeric(x)) x="911 Help" Msgbox(IsNumeric(x))

This produces the following result (each line in a separate pop-up message box):

True
True
False
True
False
